Being alone can be a depressing experience. Whether alone for a brief instant or for a much longer period, it might be difficult to ignore the loneliness that comes over you.

When you are alone, the only thing that keeps you company most of the time is your thoughts. But unfortunately, it is not always easy to come to terms with these thoughts and the feelings they may trigger.

When you are by yourself, you risk being overcome by feelings of melancholy and even hopelessness. You keep feeling increasingly isolated, and it starts to pull at the margins of your heart.

You could start having fuzzy memories of people who used to be close to you and relationships that may have faded away over time. This could cause you to start thinking about the past.

There is also a desire to form new connections and friendships, but the worry of being turned down or injured could trick you into thinking it isn’t worth your time trying.

When you are by yourself, you may have the impression that you are unnoticed by the rest of the world and that nobody sees you.

Distance may make you feel alienated or cut off from the rest of the world. The longer a person is left to their own devices, the greater the likelihood that they may begin to experience an overwhelming sense that the night will never end.

Despite these emotions, the fact that you are by yourself does not necessarily mean that all is over.

Appreciating the splendour of the environment around you and your resilience is possible.

There is still time to make adjustments and cultivate new connections with people. But, if you let yourself, there is still the possibility of living a meaningful and satisfying life.
